-Miles will keep going up as this dime is driven regularly during weekends around town.
What it may need:
-Professionally Check and adjust the engine's ignition timing. Please refer to "engine section" below to read the justification for this need, thanks.
Upholstery and interior:
-It preserves its original interior in excellent shape, to include a "Datsun" radio.
Engine:
-Original Engine: Yes, numbers matching
-Powered by a 1.6-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission.
-Original Hitachi Carburetor was rebuilt in 2017 (**see attached receipt from previous owner)
-In 2026, I installed new Mechanical Fuel Pump and Fuel Filter from Z Car Depot
-Since current owner acquired, only non-ethanol fuel has been used to run it.
-In 2026, I installed New NGK Spark plugs.
-In 2026, I did a Fresh oil change with 20w50 Valvoline VR1 and motor oil filter.
-New Mechanical fuel pump from Z Car Depot.
-Disconnected the " fuel return line" to carburetor; it is still all there & used a cap and pinch-off clamp at end of the return hose line sitting next to the carburetor. Is a common modification in Datsuns. I have done it in my other two 510s and it has served me well. I feel the cars run better as the original return system usually struggles with low fuel pressure or vapor lock.
-In 2026, I installed a New Pertronix electronic ignition system conversion kit with ignitor and flame thrower coil.
**In case the new owner would like to return the ignition distributor back to the original points and condenser system, The sale will include the original coil and the few small parts taken out from the original distributor to replace with the Pertronix ignitor parts.
**Recommend to professionally check and adjust the engine's ignition timing.
--After I installed a Pertronix electronic ignition conversion kit (ignitor and flame thrower coil) I adjusted the engine's ignition timing, as recommended by Pertronix. The thing is I did this myself and I am not a certified or professional mechanic. I am just a Datsun enthusiast & home car garage tinkerer. I followed my old school Haynes and Clymer service manuals and verified the steps in the internet. According to the service manuals, timing should be at 10 degrees "before top dead center". With my timing light, disconnecting the vacuum & slight rotation of the distributor, I felt I hit the sweet spot with the new Pertronix Electronic Ignition swap somewhere between 5-10 degrees at around 600-700 rpm. I got the car starting and idling well, and accelerating without hesitation. However, when I compare it to my other two 510s after flooring the pedal/throttle, it feels weaker. To be fair in my comparison, my 510 wagon has a stock L20b and the two door dime has the L16 but with dual side draft 40 DCOE webers. Obviously there is more power in the 2 aforementioned 510s versus the 69 four door which is fully stock. So may be "weakness" I feel is just the "normal"?? for a stock L16 engine? or did I get the engine base timing wrong?
